Extension Services & Knowledge Transfer

Teagasc – the Agriculture and Food Development Authority – is Ireland’s national body providing integrated research, extension and training services to the agriculture and food industry and rural communities.

As a partner agency of SFSI, Teagasc can prove how an extensive applied research programme, integrated with extension, farmer education and food industry training, can best support a country’s Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS) in the transfer and exchange of knowledge across the agri-food sector.

Programmes such as the Teagasc Signpost Programmes are set-up, with industry support, to bring together the total resources of the organisation in a structure to effectively transfer usable knowledge from research to practicing farmers. This is an innovative approach that relies on active collaboration between farmers and Teagasc Research and Advisory Staff in the application and development of appropriate technology and its dissemination to the widest audience possible.

SFSI offers this expertise to help partner countries develop their agricultural base in a sustainable way..
